Work across the edges of the role

Campaign work often depends on other people’s expertise.

01

Understand the other person’s question

A website specialist, a creative colleague and a commercial lead may each need different information to act. Start by establishing the decision they are responsible for.

Translate your observation into the context of that decision. Include enough detail to be useful without expecting every colleague to use the same platform vocabulary.

02

Make a request someone can answer

Explain the issue, the relevant evidence and the question you need resolved. Be clear about whether you are asking for investigation, approval or information.

If a request competes with other priorities, discuss the trade-off openly. Shared expectations are more reliable than assuming that a message automatically becomes urgent work.

03

Create room for disagreement

When another specialist challenges your interpretation, identify the evidence or assumption that differs. A productive discussion can narrow uncertainty without needing someone to be declared right immediately.

Keep the final decision and its owner clear. Collaboration is not the same as removing responsibility; it makes the responsibility better informed.
